GymPulse — Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2 July 2026

GymPulse (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a fitness and nutrition tracking app developed and published by GymPulse. This policy explains what data the app handles and how.

Short version: GymPulse is built to keep your data on your device. We do not operate servers that collect your data, we do not use analytics or advertising trackers, and we do not sell your data. There is no account to create. The only time data leaves your device is when you choose to use the optional AI meal-analysis feature, which sends food photos and meal text to an AI provider you configure — never to us.

Data stored on your device

All of the following is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party:

This data stays on your device. It is included in your encrypted device backups (iCloud/Finder) only if you have backups enabled — that is controlled by Apple, and we have no access to it.

Health & Fitness data (Apple Health)

If you grant permission, GymPulse reads the following from Apple Health to show your daily activity progress:

This data is read on your device and used only to display your progress. GymPulse never writes to Apple Health, and never transmits your health data off your device. Granting Health access is optional — the app works without it.

Camera & Photos

Optional AI meal analysis — the one time data leaves your device

GymPulse includes an optional feature that uses AI to identify foods, estimate nutrition, and suggest meals. This feature is off by default and only works if you configure it.

To use it, you enter the address (endpoint) and API key of an AI provider you choose (for example OpenAI, or a self-hosted/local model). Your API key is stored securely in your device's Keychain.

When you use the feature, the app sends to the provider you configured:

Important: this data goes directly from your device to the AI provider you selected. We (the developer) never receive, see, or store your food photos or meal text. How that provider handles your data is governed by their privacy policy, which you should review. If you never configure an AI provider, no data is ever sent anywhere.

Packaged-food database (Open Food Facts)

GymPulse includes an offline copy of the Open Food Facts database to look up packaged foods by barcode and name. These lookups happen entirely offline on your device — no request is sent to Open Food Facts or anyone else. Food data is © Open Food Facts contributors, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL).

Sharing

You may choose to share a workout summary or a shopping list using the iOS share sheet. This happens only when you initiate it, and shares only the content shown (e.g. workout stats and exercise names) — it does not include your name, body measurements, or health data.

What we do NOT do

Data retention & deletion

Because your data lives on your device, you are in control:

Children

GymPulse is a general-audience fitness app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Security

Your data is stored using Apple's on-device storage and protected by your device's security. AI-provider API keys are stored in the iOS Keychain.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated effective date.
